Turn on VM Bank alerts
VM's VM Express FAQ says that once you register a device under Manage Devices, you can set Alerts Delivery Settings to receive alerts as push notifications. That covers push. It doesn't describe card purchase alerts by email.
What VM publishes
- In VM Express, open Manage Devices and register your device.
- Use Alerts Delivery Settings to choose push notifications.
For card alerts by email, ask VM
- Call VM's Member Engagement team on 888-YES-VMBS (937-8627).
- Ask for email alerts to be switched on for each card you use.
- Ask which email address VM holds for you, and change it if it's out of date.
What a VM Bank alert says
VM's alert is a confirmation in plain sentences. Here is the sample above, a debit card purchase.
- AmountJMD 2,500.00The currency code comes before the amount. A US-dollar purchase says USD.
- MerchantSAMPLE MART KINGSTONThe merchant, written after the word at.
- CardVISA DEBIT CARD ending 1234The card's kind and its last digits.
- StatusapprovedA turned-down purchase arrives under the subject Decline Transaction instead.
- Available balance45,000.00Some alerts end with your available balance. Not every bank includes it.
- Date and timeNot includedThe alert has none. It reaches you when the card is used, so the day it arrives is the day of the purchase.
The other alerts VM Bank sends
- A payment onto a card arrives under Payment Confirmation: A payment of JMD 10,000.00 to your VISA CREDIT CARD ending 5678 was received.
- A turned-down purchase arrives under Decline Transaction, in the same wording but ending was declined.
- A new card sends Card Activation, which says your card is now active.
When VM Bank alerts stop arriving
Work down this list and stop when alerts come back.
- Ask VM which email address your card alerts go to. VM doesn't publish a way to change it for card alerts, so the bank is the one to fix it.
- Check that push notifications aren't the only thing switched on in Alerts Delivery Settings. A push notification on your phone doesn't send anything to your email.
- Look in your junk or spam folder, then add vmcardalert@myvmgroup.com to your contacts. VM says the same about credit card statements: check junk or spam if one doesn't show up.
- If a card is new or replaced, ask VM to confirm alerts are on for it.
- EveryDolla gets your alerts through the Gmail or Outlook account you connect. If the email address VM Bank holds for you is a different one, the alerts go to that inbox and none show up in EveryDolla.
An alert you don’t recognise
Call VM's Member Engagement team on 888-YES-VMBS (937-8627). Its credit card page lists the number toll-free in Jamaica.
An alert that looks right can still be fake, because anyone can copy a sender’s name and address. If an alert asks you to click a link or share a code, open VM Bank’s app or call the number on its website instead.
Use your VM Bank alerts in EveryDolla
Sign in to EveryDolla and pick VM Bank. From then on, the transaction alerts VM Bank already sends you come to EveryDolla too, only those alerts. Each purchase shows up with its merchant, amount and card, sorted into a category and added up in J$.
A purchase in US dollars keeps its US$ amount and counts toward your total in J$. Declines, reversals, card payments and transfers aren’t counted as spending. EveryDolla never asks for your VM Bank online banking password and it can’t move money. The budgeting app page shows how the pieces fit.
Some purchases never send an alert. For those, you can import a VM Bank statement instead.
