What matters in Jamaica
Most budgeting apps were built for banks in the United States, Canada and Europe. They link to your account through services that collect your transactions for them, and the ones YNAB and Monarch use don’t reach Jamaican banks. Without that link, you type each purchase in yourself.
Two questions decide whether an app will work for you here:
- Can it see your purchases without you typing them in?
- Does it count everything in J$, including the Netflix or Amazon charge billed in US$?
EveryDolla
Jamaican banks send you an alert for each card purchase. Once you sign in to EveryDolla, the alerts from NCB, Scotiabank or First Global Bank come to EveryDolla too: only those alerts, only from the banks you use. Each purchase is filed under a category. Totals are in J$; a US$ purchase is converted and counted, and keeps its US$ amount.
It works on iPhone and the web and is free to use. It covers three banks so far, and you can add other purchases yourself. We make EveryDolla, so weigh that when you read this page. Our EveryDolla page has more.
YNAB, Monarch and Wallet
YNAB is a well-known budgeting method and app. You can keep a plan in J$, but its direct bank import covers the US, Canada, the UK and some EU countries, not Jamaica.
Monarch connects to banks in the United States and Canada only and doesn’t convert currencies. Wallet by BudgetBakers handles several currencies and says it connects to over 15,000 institutions; we couldn’t confirm that any of them is Jamaican.
Any of these can work if you are happy to enter purchases by hand. None will pick up your Jamaican card purchases on its own.
Your bank’s app
NCB Mobile and Scotia Caribbean are well rated and show your balances and transactions. Each covers one bank, and neither App Store description mentions budgeting or spending insights. If you bank in two places, you see two separate pictures.
A spreadsheet
A spreadsheet costs nothing and does exactly what you set it up to do. It also needs every purchase typed in, by you.
How we compared
We read each app’s own website, help pages and App Store description on 2 October 2026. We didn’t open paid accounts with them, and their features change, so check with the app before you rely on any of this. If something here is out of date, tell us through support.
