Editorial policy How we source and check figures.

Every figure on our tools, rates pages and guides links to where it came from and carries the date we checked it. Here is how we find, check and update them.

Where our figures come from

Every figure on our calculators, rates pages and guides comes from a page we can link to. We go to the official source first: Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ), the Jamaica Information Service, the National Housing Trust (NHT), the Bank of Jamaica (BOJ), the National Land Agency and each lender’s own website. We use a newspaper report only when no official page has the figure, and the page labels it as a news report.

When we work a figure out ourselves, such as a weekly amount from a yearly one, we say so and show the sum.

How we check them

For each figure we record the value, the link and the day we read it. Pages show that day as “Figures checked against official sources on”, and our sources page lists every figure with its status.

Sometimes the sources don’t agree, or don’t say. When two official pages disagree, the page tells you and explains which figure we use and why. When a lender doesn’t publish a rate, we write “Not published”. When a lender’s table hasn’t changed in years, we show it as possibly out of date, with the date it was last updated.

How often we update

  • Lenders’ rates: every month.
  • Income tax, NIS, NHT and Education Tax: checked by 1 March each year, and again after the Budget, so the pages are right before the April changes.
  • Anything else: as soon as we learn a figure has changed.

Who writes and checks the pages

The EveryDolla team writes and checks every page. No accountant, lawyer or lender has reviewed them. If that changes, the page will name who reviewed it and when.

Our calculators

Calculators run in your browser. The amounts you type aren’t saved, sent to us or added to the page address. Our analytics record that a calculator was used, and at most which pay period you picked, never the amounts.

Results are estimates. Your employer, lender or TAJ has the final figure.

No recommendations, no referrals

We list lenders’ published rates side by side and link to each lender’s own page as the source. We don’t take referral fees, run “apply” buttons or tell you which loan to take. When a page names the lowest published rate, it means the lowest rate a lender publishes for that loan. The rate you get depends on the lender’s assessment of you.

Corrections

If a figure looks wrong or out of date, tell us through support. We check it against the source, fix the page if it needs it and update the date.
