Turn on NCB alerts
NCB's Manage My Card page tells customers to update their mobile number and email address to receive alerts. It describes an Update Contact Information feature that checks who you are with RSA verification. We found no separate switch for alerts, so the contact details you give NCB are the step.
The step NCB publishes
- Open Manage My Card on NCB's site.
- Use Update Contact Information to enter the email address and mobile number you want alerts sent to.
- Complete the RSA verification NCB asks for.
- Choose an email address you check. Email is the alert that carries on when NCB pauses texts.
NCB has switched part of the service off before. The Gleaner reported that from 13 October 2023 NCB paused its text transaction alerts after a rise in phishing and smishing, and that email alerts would continue. We found no notice that texts came back, so plan on email.
What a NCB alert says
NCB lays its card alert out as labels with a value under each. Here is the sample above, line by line.
- MerchantSAMPLE FOOD STOREThe merchant as NCB prints it, usually in capitals. At an ABM it is the machine's location.
- AmountJMD 12,845.20The currency code comes first. A purchase in US dollars reads USD.
- Card ending4471Only the last digits, enough to tell your cards apart.
- Date and time27/Sep/2026, 6:12 PMDay, month in three letters, year, then the time in Jamaica.
- StatusAPPROVEDA payment NCB turns down sends the same alert marked DECLINED.
- Reference number123456NCB's reference for the transaction. Have it ready if you call NCB about the charge.
- Available balanceJMD 45,000.00Your available balance, written into the alert. Not every bank includes it.
The other alerts NCB sends
- A card payment that is turned down arrives as TRANSACTION DECLINED with the same fields, and a reversal arrives as TRANSACTION REVERSED.
- Money paid onto a card sends PAYMENT RECEIVED, with the card ending, the date and the amount.
- Cash from an ABM comes as a Withdrawal Approved alert in the same layout, with the ABM's location where the merchant would be. Some alerts also add a Card Type line, such as VISA DEBIT.
- Transfers from your account come from a second sender, e-alerts@jncb.com, under the subject Alert from National Commercial Bank. They give a transaction ID, the amount and currency, the account it left (last digits only) and when it completed.
When NCB alerts stop arriving
Work down this list and stop when alerts come back.
- Check the email address NCB has for you. Alerts go to the address in your contact details, so a changed address or a typo stops them. Update it the way NCB describes above.
- Look in your junk or spam folder, then add no-reply-ncbcardalerts@jncb.com to your contacts so it stays out of there.
- Don't wait for a text. NCB paused text alerts in October 2023 and we haven't found a notice that they came back.
- If you use the card and no alert reaches you at all, call NCB and ask them to confirm which email address your card alerts go to.
- EveryDolla gets your alerts through the Gmail or Outlook account you connect. If the email address NCB holds for you is a different one, the alerts go to that inbox and none show up in EveryDolla.
An alert you don’t recognise
If an alert is for a purchase you didn't make, call NCB's 24-hour fraud hotline on 876-936-4235 or customer care on 888-622-3477, and block the card in Manage My Card. NCB's contact page lists both numbers.
An alert that looks right can still be fake, because anyone can copy a sender’s name and address. If an alert asks you to click a link or share a code, open NCB’s app or call the number on its website instead.
Use your NCB alerts in EveryDolla
Sign in to EveryDolla and pick NCB. From then on, the transaction alerts NCB already sends you come to EveryDolla too, only those alerts. Each purchase shows up with its merchant, amount and card, sorted into a category and added up in J$.
A purchase in US dollars keeps its US$ amount and counts toward your total in J$. Declines, reversals, card payments and transfers aren’t counted as spending. EveryDolla never asks for your NCB online banking password and it can’t move money. The budgeting app page shows how the pieces fit.
